Clockwise from top left: David shoots from his "bedroom" in Timbuktu, David using wih Panavision cameras in the Australian desert (the camera cooked!), filming a stunt on a 35mm feature film in South Africa, shooting for Unicef in India, and for the Saudi aviation authorities in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan.

Clockwise from top left: David shoots a commercial in New Zealand on 35mm, an American reality show on motorbikes, entrusting his life to Jan, the amazing BMW motocycle trainer, filming and abseiling off a cliff near Knysna (he later fell off a cliff and survived!) shooting a spot for Edgars retail store using a hothead and crane in a smoky studio, and waiting for plane in 45 degree heat in the Saudi desert, and then the UN plane in Afghanistan that took them over the Hindu Kush.

Clockwise from top left: David with his scuba crew for a reaility show in Knysna, with the Madden brothers meeting Seleka rebels in the Central African Republic, directing a scrim into place during the shooting of  the Nedbank "Youths" commercial that won a Silver Lion at Cannes and a statue at the London International Advertising Awards, after a mudbath with an elephant in Botswana and filming in India for Unicef.

Clockwise from top left: David films aids orphans in Zambia, takes to the skies in a chopper to get aerial sequences for a drama, films a corporate commercial the day after coming out of hospital for an operation to remove a malignant melanoma and two lymph glands in his neck, a couple of kilometres down a mine shaft to film gold and platinum miners, and in a water purification plant.

Clockwise from top left: David in the snow at the top of the pass into Lesotho, filming Cobra sports cars racing, putting his life into Jan's able hands again, showing kids in Zambia what a camera looks like, with liberation truggle stalwart Walter Sisulu and US director Connie Field, trying out a new Swazi "tripod" and in Timbuktu filming Taureg nomads coming into town to listen to Muammar Gaddaffi, in 2006.

Clockwise from top left: David with Francina Ndimande, one of the most famous Ndebele artists about whom he made a film. She died in 2013. With Nick Brown from Wall To Wall (right) and legend Tony Bensusan in the Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia for a film that won David a cinematography Visible Spectrum Award, down a mine at the platinum face, fighting heat, humidity, water and dirt, then filming in Cote d'Ivoire with Lucy Liu to promote clean water usage, and with the difficult Saudi client on the runway at Jeddah airport.
